Inspirations of Love, Life and Loss

Washing Away the Pain

From Washing Away the Pain
By Kenneth Esrig

THERE IS A HOLE IN MY HEART

There is a hole in my heart that does not bleed
A hole in my heart that burns round the clock
There is a hole in my heart from an unexpected loss
There is a hole in my heart when will it stop

An arrow makes a hole that sewing can repair
This is a hole made only by despair
The mending is slow and fixed only with care
A hole so big, can it ever be filled?

It takes love and support
To fill this hole in
A hole in the heart can take many forms
An absence, a loss, a failure of course

Don’t buy any thread
No shovel or sand
This is a hole that only time mends

From Washing Away The Pain
By Kenneth Esrig

IS LIFE A BOWL OF ANYTHING?

Is life a bowl of anything
Or are cherries just for fun
How much is really important
When all is said and done

Who cares how much wood a woodchuck chucks?
When the forest is cut down
A bird that flies away in time
Nests on telephone poles prime

The view we have is from the top
We think the good times never stop
The most important things today
Are just thoughts another day

After the pettiness of life
Takes a drastic turn
Look back and count your blessings
Those given and those you earn

When time fast forwards way too far
And all that remains is a dreadful scar
Look back at things you once held dear
Look at what silliness caused a tear

These thoughts were always known but rushed
And how many times must we be crushed
To learn the lesson of the day
Make sure I love you, you always say!

From Just Getting By
By Kenneth Esrig

A PICTURE BRINGS A MEMORY FLOOD

Look in the box they left behind
As you do, your thoughts unwind

The picture you hold in your hand
Shows a happier time when life was grand

All people in the picture too
Have happier memories just like you

They remember how it used to be
When all your thoughts were wild and free

Each picture brings a memory flood
Washing away the hurt or blood

The time to take a picture out
Is long before you want to shout

Place them all around your home
Put the best ones right by the phone

While you talk about the bad
Look at a time before you were sad

Pictures don’t have to have great resolution
They can provide a soothing solution

Throw the bad ones in the mud
Keep only ones with a great memory flood

From Ice Forms On My Soul (Am I awake?)
By Kenneth Esrig

CHILD COME SMILE FOR ME

Child come smile for me
I am old and it’s hard to see

Your hand is small and soft and new
Mine have spots and wrinkles too

Come and give me a little hug
Not too rough and please don’t tug

Let me help you brush your hair
Child they are wrinkles please don’t stare

I love you child with all I know
You too grandma I love you so
